This policy is in place to protect the student, the parent, and the instructor. It serves to ensure that lessons run smoothly without conflict and to keep everyone informed and on the same page. My intent is to make the musical experience enjoyable for everyone involved.

LESSONS: I teach 30 minute and one-hour lessons. The base price is $25.00 per half hour and $40.00 for one-hour lessons for one student. I offer discounted rates for multiple family members and for additional appointment times. For ensemble groups, special rates will apply. For audition purposes, I often allow extra lesson times or extra lessons at a discounted rate, sometimes even free. I want my students to do their best for All-County, All-State, Solo and Ensemble, Competitions, Recitals, etc.

SCHEDULE: I teach on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.  Any makeup days and times will be discussed on a needed basis.  Each student is given a time slot. Many of my lessons are back-to-back, so I ask that the student have their instrument and books ready when they walk into the room. They will be provided a place to put their horn together and store their horns cases. In the event of holidays, I work with flexible scheduling with each student situation. Missed lessons for illness or any other reason, I ask that you please give me as much notice as possible, as I will with my students. I raised 5 kids on my own, I am helping raise my grandchildren, I know life happens. Just let me know when it does. Additional lessons are available based on the teacher's availability. There are no refunds.

TUITION: Tuition is paid monthly, four weeks at a time in advance.  Tuition is payable by cash, check- made out to Kandyce Boehmer, or Venmo- my account Kandyce-Boehmer (has my picture). I will send out an email or message from this site when payment is due.

TARDINESS: Please let me know if you will be late. If you arrive late for your lessons, I cannot guarantee that you will be able to get your full lesson time. For one reason or another, lessons might be off a little. I let everyone know as soon as I can if I am running behind on lessons. Rescheduling a lesson is an option if needed and possible but not guaranteed.

CANCELLATIONS: If I know ahead of time, we are good. However, No-shows or cancellations without sufficient notice will not be given make-up lessons or credits. If I have a known cancellation, I may notify you with an earlier time-slot, or hold a student over for a little longer lesson (no charge). I do not give refunds and will work with you the best way for your makeup lesson if availability allows.

MATERIALS: If new materials are needed I will purchase, but will need to be reimbursed the following week or next monthly payment. This includes books, reeds, valve or slide oil, and other accessories needed for the student. Not an instrument.  I will send a note home with the student and email the information. I can also send a payment request through Venmo or through this website is preferable. If your instrument is in the shop, let me know as soon as possible. I have some instruments available to loan for a lesson, (I may have to get it out of my storage) but I ask that the student bring their own mouthpiece and reeds; for a minimum of  $5.00, a reed may be purchased from me depending on the type of reed. I will sanitize the entire instrument for their use. Please give me as much notice as possible for this.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT: I ask that the parents let their children practice. To succeed in their studies, they do homework. Practicing their instruments is their homework. Without it, we will be spinning our wheels and not getting very far. Band class is not practicing! Students have additional lesson books that they do not play in their band class. All music students should be practicing at least 5 times per week. Even if one day is nothing but their Theory assignment, I will consider that practice. Listening to assigned or suggested music can also be a part of practice time.

Students taking piano lessons need one-on-one time with their teacher. Parents are always welcome to sit in, but after the first lesson or first month, please consider waiting outside the room. I have never had a band parent want to sit in on a lesson, but the above applies to them as well.

If ever you have a question or concern about the process of your music lesson, please feel free to contact me. I can not fix what I do not know. I want this to be a positive and enjoyable part of the student's musical journey.
